Parents Toolshop® Newsletter May 2010

In this month's newsletter you'll find:

Merry May! I hope this newsletter finds you enjoying Spring and looking forward to Summer.

May, of course, is the month we celebrate Motherhood. Moms deserve every bit of thanks we can give them, but it is next to impossible to truly compensate them for all they do. Consider this: In 2002, Ric Edelman, chair of Edelman Financial Services, calculated the market value of a mom’s services, based on what it would cost to hire someone to do the tasks that most moms do. These included jobs such as child-care worker, housekeeper, nurse, and chef, to just name a few. Her net worth? To borrow a credit card’s slogan, “A year of mom’s services: price, $635,000. Mom’s hugs, smiles and unconditional love: priceless.”

May is also an eventful month, as you will see as you read our news items below. There are many ways to get involved with the Parents Toolshop® community and to receive support in return…so read on.

Featured Articles and Resources

Almost 25 years ago, I started The Family Network, a Dayton (OH) area non-profit support group for moms-at-home. So I thought Mothers Day might be a good month to feature resources on that topic:

Friday, May 14th on Parents Tool Talk Radio
"The 7 Mistakes Divorced and Separated Parents Make"
With Jody Pawel and special guest Shannon Rios, MS, LMFT

Half of all children in America will witness the breakup of their parents' marriage. This month on Parents Tool Talk, Jody and special guest Shannon Rios will provide parents with some of the tools they will need to raise healthy children of divorce, separation, and conflict.

Her new book, The 7 Fatal Mistakes Divorced and Separated Parents Make, helps divorced, separated, and single parents best possible environment for themselves and their children. In addition to discussing her book, Shannon will talk to Jody about the biggest mistake parents of divorce can make, share her success stories with families and children, and relate what she feels are the most important messages she can give to parents about "co-parenting." Get to know Shannon better by visiting her website, Healthy Children of Divorce.

The show will air LIVE on Friday, May 14, at 12pm US Eastern Time.

Introducing Parents Tool Talk Web TV! Get involved!

This summer, I am taking time off from my usual six-week classes to finish writing my short book, The Parents Toolshop® Handbook: The Proven Parenting Plan Anyone Can Use For Any Challenge With Any Child. I absolutely love interacting with parents, so I'd like to take some breaks from my writing to stay in touch with parents. If I can capture our conversations on video and post them to the PTC YouTube Channel, then thousands of other parents could benefit, too. This will be the beginning of my new web TV series, called Parents Tool Talk Web TV, featuring videos of live Q/A sessions with parents like you. If you've got questions, %$firstname$%, I've got answers... read more details HERE.

Looking to Speak While Traveling This Summer

I will be traveling to San Diego July 10-16 and most likely to upstate NY Sept. 20-25, 2010. If you have a group of parents you would like me to talk to (freewill fee & I can sell resources), I would be happy to do so. All I need is a location and assistance with publicity distribution! Click these links for a list of parenting topics I can present. I can also offer professional CEU workshops for a participant fee. For more details, contact my Speaker Coordinator, Belinda Long, or me.

School Toolshop® Update

School Toolshop® is in full swing! I am available for parenting programs in school districts nationwide. If you would like to have a Parents Toolshop® program offered at your school, then download a brochure or contact our Speaker Coordinator, Belinda Long and have her send you one or more print brochures. A print brochure hand-delivered to a principal by a parent or professional, with a personal recommendation, is always the best way to bring Toolshop® programs to your district. By fall, there will also be experienced teachers who are certified Group Facilitators and available to present Teacher Toolshop® programs. You can check out the webpage above or contact Belinda for more details.

Improving Our Email List

We only want to send you the Parents Toolshop® news and information news that best matches your interests. So we are organizing our email list into specific groups, such as "Parents," "Parent Educators," "Foster Parents," and others. Within the next few months you may receive at least one confirmation email informing you that you've been added to one of these sub-groups. You'll have the opportunity to unsubscribe from whatever group we add you to, or request to be added to a different group.

Thanks for your patience as we work to minimize unwanted emails to your inbox, while at the same time ensuring that the information you receive is as relevant to you as possible!

New Dayton Daily News Expert Page

Since the 937moms website is no longer available, The Dayton Daily News is migrating all my parenting expert articles to my new expert page at the main newspaper site. Once all my articles have been archived, I'll be adding new articles.

Follow Parents Toolshop on Twitter

If you Tweet, join our new Parents Toolshop Twitter Network! I'll be posting practical parenting tips and links to resources I discover that I think parents and family professionals might be interested in seeing.

Join Our Facebook Community

Are you on Facebook? If so, please connect with me and other parents in our community by posting on our page. I'd especially appreciate your comments about the book, teleseminars, radio show, or parenting classes. Some of the emails and comments parents have made to me directly would be valuable to share in a post, to help other parents feel affirmed and supported. I also think it helps parents to hear recommendations from other parents or to hear your experiences. This is a great way to do that. Here's what to do:

  1. Go to the Parents Toolshop® Facebook Page.
  2. Log in to Facebook by entering your username and password at the top of the page.
  3. Click the "Become a Fan" button.
  4. Enter your comment in the box marked "What's on your mind?" and click the "Share" button.

In closing, I hope every mom reading this will take a day off this month to get some much deserved rest. Also remember that everyone in the Parents Toolshop community acknowledges and appreciates all you do. It is my wish that each person who reads this will, in turn, send a shower of loving appreciation your way.

If you have a question or comment you would like me to address, please email our newsletter editor at support@parentstoolshop.com.

Yours in Service to Families,
