Parents Toolshop® Newsletter August 2010

In this newsletter you'll find:
I've just returned from a much needed two-week vacation in lovely San Diego (with a side trip to L.A.) It was unusually cold and cloudy, but being at the beach under any conditions is a treat when you are from Ohio! After the hustle and bustle of the Oprah OWN experience (see update below), I enjoyed being away from the media and internet --- and my team did an amazing job of handling business so I could rest and regroup. This month, my daughter will be married, so I'm relishing each moment of that experience and will spend the remainder of the summer writing The Parent's Toolshop Handbook. My thoughts will be with all of you who have children returning to school. I hope you will find the resources in this newsletter helpful to you in that transition.
Oprah OWN Show Results
By now, I think I would have heard something if I was chosen to move on to the L.A. auditions, but haven't. The vote counts have been finalized and it's obvious not all our votes were counted. Nevertheless, the experience I had at the live auditions in Dallas was amazing; a personal and professional breakthrough experience, to be sure. I so appreciate all your votes and notes of support. I have been so blessed to know how much you value Parent's Toolshop® and want it (and me) to succeed in reaching millions more people.
I am curious to watch the show in January 2011 to see who was chosen for the final 40 (aside from the Top Five Vote Getters) to see what kind of shows and hosts they thought were best.
Stay tuned to this channel, because this was not the beginning of the idea and it won't be the end! I've had this TV show idea at least 15 years and in the past year, well before the Oprah opportunity, I've been talking to people who are (or were) in the TV industry to learn the process of producing a TV show. So it's just a matter of time before another opportunity will find me (or I find it)!

School Toolshop® Update
We are currently scheduling School Toolshop® programs for the 2010-2011 School Year. I am available for parenting programs in school districts nationwide. School districts can also invite me to keynote parent conferences. Most of our newly certified GFs are meeting the requirements to join the Parent's Toolshop Speaker bureau so they, too, can provide these programs, and more.
If you would like to have a Parents Toolshop® program offered at your school, then download a brochure or contact our Speaker Coordinator, Belinda Long and have her send you one or more print brochures. A print brochure hand-delivered to a principal by a parent or professional, with a personal recommendation, is always the best way to bring Toolshop® programs to your district.

Are you on Facebook? If so, please connect with me and other parents in our community by posting on our page. I'd especially appreciate your comments about the book, teleseminars, radio show, or parenting classes. Some of the emails and comments parents have made to me directly would be valuable to share in a post, to help other parents feel affirmed and supported. I also think it helps parents to hear recommendations from other parents or to hear your experiences. This is a great way to do that. Here's what to do:
- Go to the Parents Toolshop® Facebook Page.
- Log in to Facebook by entering your username and password at the top of the page.
- Click the "Become a Fan" button.
- Enter your comment in the box marked "What's on your mind?" and click the "Share" button.
In closing, I hope you enjoy the rest of your Summer and that your family's transition back to the Fall routine is a smooth one. If you have a question or comment you would like me to address, please email our newsletter editor at support@parentstoolshop.com.
Yours in Service to Families,

(New photo by Nikki Kleman, PT grad. Thanks!)
