Fall 2007 News

In this Issue:

President’s News

Well, I can finally announce now that it's official...I am now the exclusive on-line parenting expert for Cox Ohio Publishing's (Dayton Daily News and their local neighborhood publications) new websites: www.937moms.com and www.513moms.com. I'll be introducing myself on the site in late August and will be writing a weekly article for the websites! Although the websites are designed to be an on-line discussion forum for Dayton-area moms, anyone can access the site and its articles. To participate in the discussions you just need to register as a user, but again don't have to be a mom from the Dayton (OH) area. The only information that might not be relevant for you are references to local locations (parks, etc.)

Parents Toolshop® News

Programs & Schedules

The Fall workshop schedule is booked solid with several local parenting classes, statewide continuing education workshops for foster parents and social service professionals, and several private/contract parenting classes and speaking engagements.

PTC's monthly parenting teleseminars have been well received and appreciated. Each month, we have a conference call (the second Friday of each month) where we discuss a hot parenting topic, apply the practical tips we learn to real-life challenges, and then do open Q&A for the remainder of the hour.

To participate, just register once for the series and you'll receive a reminder of the call. If you can make the call, great! You'll get personalized support and guidance from me and the other parents and family professionals on the call. If you can't make the call that month, no sweat! You'll still receive all the after-call resources, including the recording of the teleseminar...at no charge!

To see a list of past topics or get a recording of a past teleseminar, go to the teleseminar archive page.

Ambris Publishing News

I took off this summer to write a shorter, in-all-bookstores-nationwide edition of The Parents Toolshop® book. This Fall I will be seeking an agent and publisher who will hopefully not only publish that book but reproduce and enhance the parent education curriculum and entire Ambris Publishing product line.

Integrity Marketing® News

For now, I'm not actively building the Integrity Marketing service line. The website has several free and low-cost educational resources for family service professionals and I'm still available for conference workshops and professional training programs on marketing family-service programs. I am only going to develop new marketing resources for our Parents Toolshop Group Facilitators, for whom I will develop a turn-key program each instructor can follow, step-by-step to start or build their Parents Toolshop® practice.

Parents Toolshop® Graduate News

Welcome to the 40 new Parents Toolshop® Graduates from the Winter and Spring 2007 Dayton-area classes! We’re glad you are part of our parenting network and appreciate all the wisdom, support and encouragement you offer other parents...and your enthusiastic commitment to Parents Toolshop®.

In an effort to create some new fun learning games, I enlisted the help of Parents Toolshop® graduates who had some great photos of their children. I held an impromptu Parents Toolshop® Photo Contest where graduates submitted photos of their children acting "good" and "almost good."  The participants in my Children's Services class were the judges...and the winners were:

Best "Good" from Natasha Ellwanger             Best "Almost Good" from Anna Russell

Toolshop® Group Facilitator News

We are awaiting news that our newest instructor, Selena Dyke, is safe after Hurricane Dean swept through the Cayman Islands, where she lives, and Jamaica, where she used to live!

The Tour Guide Standards and Practices Committee has been very productive lately, making several very important decisions. One of the most important is that beginning in January 2008, Parents Toolshop® will begin accepting applications for Parents Toolshop® "Advisors." These will be certified coaches, CFLEs, and licensed counselors, social workers and MFTs who are familiar with Parents Toolshop® teachings and are willing to provide private consultation or coaching sessions to parents. The committee has approved the application, screening, training, and acceptance process and is in the process of rewriting the PTLeader Standards & Practices Manual. One of the changes you will see is that we will no longer call our instructors "Group Facilitators." We will have different titles for different kinds of Toolshop® Leaders, from "Group Facilitators" to "Advisors" and some sub-classifications within each category. We'll tell you when the S&P manual has been updated and you can learn more in January when we launch this new service.

Thank you for your ongoing support
of The Parents Toolshop!

Stay tuned for more exciting news in January, 2008!

Jody Johnston Pawel, LSW, CFLE
