Summary of the  Group Facilitator Certification Process

Research the Parents Toolshop Instructor Certification process:

  • Read the PTLeader Standards & Practices Manual for more details about each step listed below—and all aspects of being a Group Facilitator. The PTLeader Standards & Practices Manual explains every tiny little detail, including college-based certification (for students and professors) and Trainer-of-Trainer certification. (You will confirm you have read this when submitting an application to begin the certification process.)

  • The “Certification Information Packet” provides detailed information about the benefits, features and testimonials of instructor certification, so you can thoroughly research your options and check us out.

Decide Parents Toolshop is the curriculum for YOU!

  • STEP 1: Complete/Sign/Mail a Group Facilitator Application and Pre-certification Training Agreement.

  • The S&P Committee will review your application and notify you within 30 days whether you have been approved to pursue instructor certification. You will receive information about how to purchase a Pre-Certification Training Kit ($50)

Pre-certification: Learn the Material

  • STEP 2:Complete the Pre-Certification Home Study Training.  When you start this Home Study training program, we'll assign you a Group Facilitator liaison, to support you through the pre-certification process and review your study guide. You have up to six months from the date you purchased the kit to complete the pre-certification training, but can apply for one six-month extension for $50.

  • Read all of The Parent's Toolshop © 2000

  • Complete the pre-certification study guide as you read each chapter and submit each part to your GF liaison.

  • Complete a parenting skill assessment, scoring 9+ of 11 points.

  • Witness 4 hours of Parent's Toolshop® programming by attending a workshop or viewing a video. Program fees vary.

Certification: How to Teach Toolshop® Programs

  • STEP 3:Attend a Group Facilitator Certification Training (a $500 one-time fee) in person or by video (extra $100 for videos & personalized liaison support throughout).

  • STEP 4: Initial Probation: You have up to six months to teach a program and submit a report with your evaluation results. Then you receive final certification.

Recertification: Stay in Touch (ongoing)

  • Every two years, renew your certification by submitting an activity report. Instructors earn $-for-$ Recertification Fee Waivers for every resource they purchase and every fee split they submit --- up to 100% --- so active instructors usually pay nothing to recertify.  (See the S&P Manual for details.)
