Jody
Johnston Pawel,
is a Licensed Social Worker in the State of Ohio and Certified
Family Life Educator through the
National Council of Family Relations. As president
of Parent's Toolshop Consulting, Ltd., she oversees an international
network of parent educators. Through it's subsidiary company,
Ambris Publishing, she publishes dozens of
resources for parents,
family-service professionals and certified Parents Toolshop
instructors.
Jody is one of the few second-generation parenting instructors
in the world. She started her "parent
education" at age eight with her parents, who co-taught
parenting classes for more than ten years (her mother taught for
over 30 years), so effective parenting is her "first
language."
For more than 25
years, Jody has been a leader in the parent education field. She
has trained thousands of parents, parent educators,
family-service professionals, foster parents, protective service
case workers, child care professionals [and more] throughout
North America, through her uniquely entertaining and highly informative
workshops. She
also serves on the Advisory
Board of the
National Effective Parenting Initiative.
Her most popular book,
The Parent's Toolshop: The Universal
Blueprint for Building a Healthy Family,
received the 1999 and 2000 "Seal of Approval" from
The
National Parenting Center. In 2000, it was a finalist for the
most prestigious Benjamin Franklin Award: the Bill Fisher Award for
that year's "Best First Book by a New Author," sponsored by
Publisher's Marketing Association. It has also
received endorsements and testimonials from
top parenting experts and authors,
parents
and family-professionals nationwide.
Since 1992, Jody has trained and certified dozens of Parent's
Toolshop "Tour
Guides" (parent educators) to provide family life
education programs throughout the world, using The Parent's
Toolshop book and curriculum as their guide. The Parent's
Toolshop outcome-focused parent education curriculum has
over 10 years of impressive outcome
results for 2000+ parents and family-professionals. The
Parents Toolshop PTLeader Standards & Practices peer-advisory committee screens and approves each applicant,
whom Jody personally trains, to assure high-quality programming
and that the highest ethical standards are maintained by its
instructors. This
thorough, advanced parent educator certification training is
responsible for The Parent's Toolshop's reputation for having dynamic,
interactive, top-quality programs -- a standard Jody establishes
for others through her example.
In addition to more than 100
resources for parents,
family-service professionals and
parent-education professionals, Jody has also written the
T.I.P.S.: Tools for Improving Parenting Skills
parenting-advice column
for Dayton Parent and the Springboro Star Press.
Newspapers and magazines regularly seek her expert opinions for
parent-advice articles. Her advice has been published in such
noted publications as Parenting, Parents, Working Mother,
Christian Parenting Today, Christian Science Monitor, Redbook,
Women's Day, U.S. News & World Report, and the Chicago
Tribune.
Jody also has
over 25 years of media experience and is a
frequent guest on radio/TV talk shows throughout North America. In
the year 2000 alone, she gave over 100 interviews and appeared
weekly as the call-in parenting advice expert for a L.A.-area
radio talk show. Previously, she was the Assistant Producer and
on-air child care expert for the Emmy Award-nominated Ident-a-Kid
television series for the duration of the series.
Jody currently serves as the
online parenting expert for
Cox Ohio Publishing’s mom-to-mom websites.
Within the field of
parent education, Jody is one of the leading experts in
effectively marketing parenting programs. She has
extensive training and expertise in the most cutting-edge,
integrity-based, client-focused marketing practices parent
educators, therapists and coaches can use. Since
April, 2004 she has served as a team leader and co-facilitator
for the Book
Yourself Solid,
Product Factory
and Traffic
School programs, winning several leadership awards for her
outstanding performance. She has also written articles on
marketing parent education programs that have been published in
the NCFR CFLE
newsletter and she has presented workshops at parent
educator conferences throughout the U.S. on effectively
marketing parent education programs.
On the home-front, Jody has been happily married
since 1983 and is the mother of two young adults -- who have
already learned effective parenting as their first
language.
