Jody
Johnston Pawel,
a Licensed Social Worker, Certified Family Life Educator and second-generation
parent educator provided parent-education programs in a home-based
setting from 1986 through 1992. In 1993, she formed The Parent's
Toolshop as her private consulting business to provide family life
education programs to local sponsors who requested her services.
Throughout this period, Pawel was researching, developing, and
field
testing her own parent education curriculum while her business
showed consistently increasing success. She also developed The
Parent's Toolshop Group Facilitator Training
Program, to train and certify others to teach family life education
programs based on her expertise and teachings.
In 1997, Pawel
independently published her parent education book/curriculum through
Ambris Publishing. One thousand
copies were distributed to local and regional markets, to test the
interest in the book. At this time, there were already more than
a dozen "Group Facilitators" teaching Parent's Toolshop programs in Ohio
and Pawel had several ongoing service contracts.
In 1998, Parent's
Toolshop products and services gained the attention of parents and
professionals throughout North America. To accommodate a national
expansion, Pawel reclassified Parent's Toolshop Consulting as a
Limited Liability Company in the State of Ohio, with Ambris Publishing
as a subsidiary company.
