Endorsements
of The Parent's Toolshop
The
Parent's Toolshop received the endorsement of one very well-known
author who has a habit of writing best-selling books that help
people become highly effective in their businesses and families.
He is also so humble he doesn't allow his name to be listed in any publicity,
only on the cover of the books he endorses (see the back cover of the
2000 edition of The Parent's Toolshop). In order for a book to
receive this author's endorsement, it has to pass through three screening
committees. The Parent's Toolshop succeeded in being reviewed
by this mega-star author, who gave the following endorsement:
"The proven principles and practical
examples within this tremendous book are a phenomenal resource for parents
to turn to again and again. This toolshop is definitely one-stop shopping."
Susan
Kendrick is a nationally-known consultant who has written the following
publicity materials for ToolshopTM products and services: the
back cover of The Parent's Toolshop, a brochure for Jody Pawel's
upcoming national tour of professional CEU training programs, Yearbook
of Experts, Authorities and Spokespersons ad and Jody's speaker publicity
kit. To write these materials, Susan needed to become familiar with The
Parent's Toolshop. As the mother of two children, Susan had a personal
interest in learning more about effective parenting. Upon reviewing The
Parent's Toolshop, Susan gave the following endorsement:
"I feel like I've tumbled head first
into a treasure chest of jewels. This is amazing! Here, finally, I feel
like I've found a parenting book that supports my own perspective and
approach, but doesn't leave me just feeling good about my intentions.
You supply the mortar that holds all those concepts together. The dialogues
alone make the book priceless. At first, I thought this "system" might
prove over-whelming. But like any good learning aid, it leads you along
effortlessly as you collect and put to use all that you find. Thanks for
a tremendous resource."

Redesigned
and Improved
PTC Website
We literally searched the world, via the Internet,
and requested proposal submissions from the top website designers whose
professionalism and artistic flair impressed us. Then, as we were signing
our business loan papers at River
Valley Credit Union, we
admired their website and got their designer's name. Of all the
designers whose work we've seen, we chose David Ferguson, who lives less
than five minutes from the Pawel's home! Who would have thought such a
talented graphic designer would be in our own backyard. David has been
spending many hours redesigning our website, and designing phenomenal
publicity materials for PTC and Ambris Publishing. We are looking forward
to a long and prosperous relationship with David, who is just establishing
his private designing business--with the help of River Valley Credit Union!
His skills and talents are helping us present ToolshopTM products
and services to the world through colorful, exciting, professionally-designed
publicity.

PTC
President's News
While always busy with PTC and Ambris
projects, Jody continues to pursue independent professional projects
that positively impact PTC and Ambris' success. Here are a few of
her most recent pursuits.
Pawel
Receives CFLE Certification
Jody
recently received "Certified Family Life Educator" (CFLE) certification
through the National Council on Family Relations. NCFR sponsors
the only national program to certify family life educators. The
CFLE program encourages applications from all professionals with
course work and experience in family life education that verifies
their expertise in ten "substance areas." Although over 1200 family
life educators have received CFLE certification since 1985, Jody
is the only CFLE in the entire Miami Valley, greater-Dayton,
and twelve-county area. For more information about CFLE certification,
visit www.ncfr.org.
National
Speaking Tour
Jody will begin her national CEU training
tour in September. She will be offering a six-hour, one-day training
for family-service professionals for continuing education credits.
If you would like her to offer this training in your area
or if you would like to be or find a sponsor for a presentation
to parents while she is in your town, contact Jody at PTC headquarters
(see contact information at top of newsletter).
Jody is also available to provide Toolshop-based
training programs for corporate sponsors on organizational team-building
and other topics that build personal and professional productivity.
Contact Jody for more information about these programs or join the
e-mail list to be notified when her speaker publicity packet is
available on-line at the PTC website.
Pawel
Recognized Nationwide as Parenting Expert
Jody Pawel is one of many experts who
are listed in the following publications:
Radio
& TV Interview Report
is a twice- monthly resource that media hosts and producers
use to find stimulating guests for their talk shows. Jody has already
been featured in the directory seven times. Her listing will next
appear in the issues that are distributed at Book Expo America and
the special "Parenting Experts" issue.
The Yearbook
of Experts, Authorities and Spokespersons
is a huge publication that includes invitation-only advertisements
from hundreds of experts in a variety of professions. The directory
is actively used by media producers who need an "expert" opinion.
To view Jody's
listing, get more information about YEAS or to view their list
of experts on-line, visit their website: www.yearbook.com.
Pawel
Seeks Advice Forum
Parents and professionals often suggest
that Jody "get a call-in advice radio show" or "get a parenting
advice column in the local newspaper." She has been giving parenting
advice on TV and call-in radio shows for over twenty years and is
regularly interviewed by newspapers, magazines, TV and radio talk
shows throughout North America. She has written dozens of articles
and had an advice column in Dayton Parent for two years,
until the paper stopped publication.
In the Dayton (Ohio) area, there are
call-in radio shows for home repairs, car repairs, pets and gardening
-- but none for parents. John Rosemond's syndicated parenting advice
column runs once a week in the Dayton Daily News, but his
advice is often criticized as extreme, controversial, and sometimes
inaccurate and unhealthy. Several times, Jody has contacted both
WHIO-AM radio, which has featured Jody Pawel as a radio guest several
times and the Dayton Daily News to offer her services.
She has consistently found a common attitude in the Dayton area
that "anyone who is local can't possibly be an expert." Consequently,
her advice can be read or heard somewhere in America almost every
day, but media in her own hometown continue looking beyond their
own backyard, where Jody is ready and able to help. If you have
any ideas, connections, or inclination to help Jody pursue these
possibilities further, either directly through letters to the editor/producer
or indirectly, discuss your ideas with Jody by calling the PTC office
at (513) 748-4541 (a local toll-free call in the Dayton area).

Guide News
There are currently 20 active certified
ToolshopSM Group Facilitators throughout the U.S. Here is what
is happening with some of them. Group Facilitators, please send updates
about your ToolshopSM activities and any schedules for
programs open to the general public to info@parentstoolshop.com.
Outstanding
Group Facilitator of 1999
By Deb Ruscitelli,
PTC Group Facilitator
Coordinator
Deanna Campbell Todd was recognized
at the March PTLeader Standards & Practices committee meeting
for her outstanding contributions to Parent's ToolshopSM
programming. Deanna has been a Group Facilitator since March 1998. She
has worked with the Greene County Family and Children First project
as a Parent Support Coordinator since September 1999
|
|
Just since October, Deanna has presented
22 series presentations with a total of 110 class sessions. She
primarily teaches 3-, 4-, or 6- week parenting classes for mandated
and self-referred parents of K-8th grade children in
Greene County. In 1999, she also offered classes to court-mandated
parents through Montgomery County Juvenile Court. She has started
a quarterly Parent Educator
Resource Group in Greene County, has offered professional in-service
workshops and wants to start a parent-to-parent mentor program in
Greene County.
|
 |
|
An excerpt from the letter nominating
Deanna states, "Rather than wait for requests [for presentations]
to come to her, Deanna has established a positive and active networking
system with the schools and court agencies in Greene County. Her
presentation style is so down-to-earth, funny, yet informative and
practical that participants in her training programs immediately
develop rapport with her and are motivated to learn more about Parent's
ToolshopSM programs and products."
To thank Deanna for her outstanding
service and representation of The Parent's Toolshop, she
received an award certificate, a $50 Ambris gift certificate and
a leather briefcase. Congratulations Deanna!
Tour
Guide Updates
Nancy Ordonia,
our Outstanding Group Facilitator of 1998, moved from Dayton (OH) back
to Niceville, Florida last Summer. (Deanna Campbell Todd was hired
into her old job.) Nancy is now working as a Family Child Care Specialist
at Child Care Services, which is a resource and referral agency
for childcare providers. This is where she was working before her
family was transferred to Ohio and where she got her start as a
parent educator. She is planning to start providing ToolshopSM
programs in her area in the near future. We are happy her move went
well, she's settled in, has a job she loves and will be diving back
into her Group Facilitator activities soon, because she is truly a talented
and skillful parent educator.
Bryelle Broome
will be teaching Parent's ToolshopSM parenting classes
at Erma's House in Dayton (OH) this summer, through a United Way
grant to the Families Count Project of Catholic Social Services
of the Miami Valley. Bryelle continues to teach Parent's ToolshopSM
classes at the YWCA and also works as a family counselor for the
Dayton Public Schools.

Guide Directory Update
by Deb Ruscitelli,
PTC Group Facilitator Coordinator
I am still in the midst of compiling
the Group Facilitator Directory. Thanks to all of you who have submitted
information. Typically, halfway through the process, more ideas
are thought of to be included with the directory. Briefly, we want
to include Group Facilitator name, home address and phone, work address
and phone, area of expertise, and FAX and e-mail information. I
will be contacting everyone for this information. If you would like
to submit the above information to me by e-mail, you may send it
to info@parentstoolshop.com
rather than by phone. Thank you!
Ask
a Group Facilitator For Advice
We'd like to invite all ToolshopSM
Group Facilitators to submit articles of interest to parents and offer
advice to parents who submit questions to the PTC website and newsletter.
We'd like to have a list of Group Facilitators who will volunteer to give
advice so we can direct questions to them based on their areas of
expertise. This is your opportunity to help parents and
to build your expertise as a parent educator. The S&P committee
decided there will be no by-lines on these answers unless requested
or specified by the Group Facilitator. All articles and answers may be
screened and edited for accuracy and brevity prior to publication.
Answers to questions will be posted in the e-mail newsletter and
PTC website. If you are interested in being on this list of advisors,
send an e-mail to info@parentstoolshop.com.
S&P
Policy Updates
The PTLeader Standards & Practices
(S&P) manual was amended at the 9/1/99 S&P committee meeting as
follows:
Page 8, "Pre-Certification
Training" section, Item 1b: Replace with:
All Group Facilitator applicants must complete the correspondence study
guide and witness a minimum of six (6) hours of a Parent's
ToolshopSM program, either in person or by video. Graduation
from a full-length (10+ hour) TPT class is desirable, but not mandatory.
The correspondence training fee is $100. If an applicant attends
a Parent's ToolshopSM workshop or class in person, a
$70 dis-count will be applied to the correspondence training fee.
If they buy a video to "witness" the six hours of ToolshopSM
programming, the purchaser of the video will receive a discount
on the Correspondence Study Guide equal to the price of the video.
Page 6, "Associate
Group Facilitators" section, bullet 3, add:
Any agency who markets programs based on The Parent's Toolshop
for profit will be required to give 10% of the gross speaker's fee
to PTC for using its copyrighted material to make a profit.
Page 12, first paragraph.
Replace with:
The GF training is a fifteen-hour program that takes an applicant's
knowledge of The Parent's Toolshop to a higher level.
Add the following bullet under "The GF certification
training teaches participants":
How to perform outcome-focused parenting skill assessments using
a tool specifically designed for Parent's ToolshopSM
classes that meets United Way evaluation criteria.
At the 3/24/00 S&P
meeting, the following policy was adopted:
When a college or school
adopts The Parent's Toolshop is as a course curriculum,
the instructor does not need to be a certified ToolshopSM
Group Facilitator. These instructors' class participants, however, cannot
receive Parent's ToolshopSM graduation certificates nor
can they use the class time towards Group Facilitator pre-certification
requirements. For students to be able to apply for Parent's ToolshopSM
Group Facilitator certification, they must receive a "graduation" certificate
for a 6+-hour ToolshopSM program taught by a certified
ToolshopSM Group Facilitator -- like all other Group Facilitator applicants.
Tour
Guide Certification
At a March in-service training Jody
Pawel gave at Montgomery County Children's Services Board, six participants
expressed an interest in becoming certified Group Facilitators. There is
one Group Facilitator applicant from Atlanta (GA) completing the pre-certification
process and there are agencies in Buffalo (NY) and Darke County
(OH) who are planning to schedule in-service training so some of
their staff can become certified Group Facilitators. If there are
at least 4 Group Facilitator applicants who have completed their pre-certification
requirements by July 31, 2000, Jody will schedule a Group Facilitator certification
training for August. This would enable these new Tour
Guides to start teaching parenting classes in Fall, 2000. If you
want certified by Fall, please contact info@parentstoolshop.com
to find out how you can be ready to participate in the
August certification training.
